Reddish Vale Country Park lies in the Tame Valley north of Stockport town centre. It is a place of recreation for a large local population and offers an area of tranquility and interest that is easily accessible. The Friends group is made up of volunteers who support the Park Rangers with outdoor conservation work and in the running of the Visitor Centre, giving visitors help and advice and supporting the many events around the park.
The Friends group actively contributes financially both to events and other costs in the park. Working together with the Stockport Council Parks Department the Friends group attracts grant aid from various grant givers allowing access to money not normally available directly to Local Authorities. This allows for planned development of the park and making it more interesting and accessible for the wider community through improved facilities and frequent diverse events.
Through sales of merchandise the Visitor Centre raises money for the RSPB and also hosts events by other wildlife groups.
Some members also work in the Community Garden, a lovely area of orchard and garden and always a tranquil place to spend some time.
New members are always welcomed and there is something for everyone to participate in.
